The case of a voyeur jailed in Singapore has been called the “worst ever” of its kind by prosecutors.

A 27-year-old man was sentenced to jail for three years for capturing obscene videos of women without their consent or knowledge.

It was in 2013 when Ong Yi Jie (who also went by the name Kenneth), a customer service officer, bought hidden cameras shaped like wall hooks. He planted them in public toilets, as well as his home. Some of the toilets he installed the devices in include Nanyang Polytechnic, SIM University, and the Church of Singapore in Bukit Timah, according to The Straits Times.

Even his own friends weren’t spared.

In 2014, he invited four female friends into his home and surreptitiously filmed them when they used the washroom.

He was caught after THREE years

Ong shared the films on a platform called Sammyboy Forum, a sex and prostitution-themed website. The videos clearly showed each woman’s face and genitals.

It wasn’t until November 2016 that the Ministry of Education caught wind of obscene videos on Google groups and Sammyboy Forum of school girls using toilets or changing rooms. The police were notified, and they arrested Ong later that month.

Ong wasn’t acting alone

Ong was capturing and sharing so much obscene content that other forum users started asking him to teach them how he did it, Channel News Asia reports.

Ong even met up with one forum user — Clarence Tang Jia Ming, 25 — and showed him how to install a hidden camera inside a Starbucks toilet cubicle in Holland Village. He gave Tang his first hidden camera, and taught him how to get the “best viewing angles”.

One user, 28-year-old Shaun Lee, gave Ong money to buy more cameras to share videos with him. Both Tang and Lee have been charged for several counts of insulting a woman’s modesty.

“Such a systematic and large-scale violation of the privacy of women and girls in public toilets and changing rooms causes considerable public concern,” the prosecutor said. “There has never been another case involving such large-scale filming of victims via the use of hidden cameras.”
