Elon Musk is revolutionizing travel and energy while figuring out a way to reach Mars, among many other tasks. Where does this real-life Tony Stark find the time to do everything?

To say Elon Musk has a lot on his plate would be the understatement of the century. Apart from his duties at SpaceX and Tesla, he also juggles his leadership roles in OpenAI, Neuralink, The Boring Company, SolarCity, among many others. Plus, he’s a father of five boys.

How does he manage to do everything? By maintaining a schedule.

Business Insider went through several interviews to piece together an approximation of what Musk’s life looks like.

Here’s what we can all learn from Elon Musk’s schedule:

1. There are no shortcuts to greatness

If you’ve got high ambitions like Musk, there are no shortcuts. You have to put in the time.

Musk wakes up at 7 am every day and goes to sleep at 1 am. He works 85 to 100 hours a week, spending 80% of his time on engineering and design.

This schedule is definitely not for everyone, but if you’re trying to change the world, there’s only one way to do it.

2. Embrace structure

To accommodate his many roles, Musk’s schedule is broken down into five-minute slots. His days vary. It’s reported that his Mondays and Fridays are spent at SpaceX, and the rest of the week, he works in Tesla.

3. Cut out the unnecessary

Musk doesn’t usually take phone calls, and he uses an obscure email address to keep people from spamming him. He skips breakfast, has a five-minute lunch at his desk, and gets most of his nutrition during business meetings, which is when he eats “way too much,” as he told Auto Bild.

4. Multitask when possible

To make sure that he maximizes every minute of his time, the Tesla CEO stretches each five-minute increment as much as possible.

For example, he usually eats his lunch during a meeting. And even when he’s spending time with his sons, he still responds to emails. “If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be able to get my job done,” he told Business Insider.

5. Make time for self-care

Though Musk’s schedule is insanely busy, he makes a point to start every day with a shower. He also works out once or twice a week to keep in shape.

And he knows how to have fun.

Musk still finds the time to read books. His favourites include Lord of the Rings and biographies of great men like Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein.

And we mustn’t forget that he knows how to throw a party. For his 30th birthday, he rented a castle in England (as billionaires do). Guests ended up playing hide-and-seek and sardines until 6 am.
