Two of the world's busiest flight routes are in Asia!

Thanks to low cost travel, we hop on and off flights multiple times a year without batting an eyelid. But have you ever wondered what is the world’s busiest flight route?

A report recently released by Bloomberg has revealed that the world’s busiest flight route is between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore!

The one-hour flight linking Singapore and Malaysia is the world’s busiest international route.

There were 30,537 trips made between Singapore and the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur in the last 12 months till February this year, according to a report by OAG Aviation Worldwide Ltd.

That’s 84 flights a day!

Singapore’s Changi Airport is also one of the busiest airports in the world, despite being housed in one of the smallest countries in the world.

In 2016, Changi Airport saw international passenger traffic of 58,158,000. That same year, they completed construction of Terminal 4, with Terminal 5 in the pipeline.

The OAG Aviation Worldwide Ltd report also showed that the busiest flight route outside the Asian region ran between New York and Toronto. There were 16,956 flights on that leg. The trip between Dublin and London Heathrow ranked 14th and was the busiest European entry with 14,390 flights.

In terms of passenger numbers, Hong Kong-Taipei tops the list with 6.5 million people flying that route within the 12-month period, followed by Jakarta-Singapore with 4.7 million and Kuala Lumpur-Singapore with 4 million.

The report has clearly shown that Asia is the world’s fastest-growing travel market. But even the most frantic international routes don’t come close to the most popular domestic flights.

In terms of domestic flights, the world’s busiest flight route is between Seoul and a Jeju Island. Planes made 65,000 trips between the South Korean capital and Jeju island in 2017, according to OAG.

Who would have guessed that the world’s busiest flight route (for domestic flights) is actually from Seoul to Jeju?
